The Seventh Sun (TSS) is a medieval fantasy MUD, currently in development by Colonnelli Entertainment, LLC. Development time ranges from 2000 to the present, with several long interrupts over the years due to lack of staff. Production has picked up again in the summer of 2009 with a unique take on the alpha and beta stages of development. Instead of having closed Alpha and Beta stages like many games in development, TSS is offering players a chance to live threw the early history in the game through a customized alpha and beta stage called Ancestry. The characters that players play in the live version of the game will be the decedents of those played during Ancestry.

[edit] Game

Gameplay takes place in the world of Xaltoria, an original design concept by Chel Ramsey, COO of Colonnelli Entertainment, LLC and Lead Conceptual Design of TSS. The game's website features class, race, and other concept art by Stephanie Pui-Mun Law, who has had her art featured in games and other published media by various clients including Wizards of the Coast and Green Ronin.[1]

The game developer provides a detailed history of the world, including a creation story, as it relates to the game world and the game's deities. An Age or era in the history of Xaltoria is called a Sun. In this way, the Seventh Sun, or Seventh Age, is referred to as The Age of Prosperity. It is in this age that the live game will take place, while the Ancestry program takes place many centuries before.

There are fourteen proposed playable races that will be divided into the two lands or kingdoms of Lazaron and Karatta. Players may choose between sixteen classes based upon their play-style, race they choose to play, and abilities they wish to possess. The Seventh Sun is unique in that while it will have the common elements that most MUDs possess - combat, magic, PvP - it will also allow a player to exist exclusively as a tradesperson or craftsman.

[edit] Ancestry

Recently (summer 2009), developers of TSS announced the their concept of the Ancestry program, which will stand as the game's Alpha and Beta stages. This program allows players to enter the game world in a very early stage of history called The Ruination. This time period follows after a great cataclysm in the world and the inhabitants are trying to rebuild civilizations. For a monthly donation to help provide revenue for the game during development, players can develop in-game families, skills such as Scavenging, and even claim property of their own. Systems are thoroughly tested by the players as they move through the developing world and help create the world from the inside out.
