[edit] Connection info
The MUD can be joined by connecting to firedragon.com at port 6969. There is also a website, with a range of game information and player input. As with many MUDs, Shadowgate is free to play.
[edit] Gameplay
Shadowgate has evolved from what was originally just a hack-and-slash style, into a RPI (roleplay intensive) MUD focussing on lore and setting. While based on the Faerun world, it has an original geography and history, including a modified pantheon. It supports thousands of rooms, saved equipment and character histories, and an optional PK system. It offers ten classes of various melee and caster abilities, and more than twenty races.
Players begin at level 1, gaining experience to increase their levels and gain new abilities. Standard players are limited to 33 levels, though advanced players can reach the maximum cap of 40. Non-combat skills can also be learned through practice and levelling, to help further develop a character. Items and equipment can be customised to suit, as can histories, character descriptions, and a vast range of emotes and character customizations.
[edit] MUD
An LP MUD now running on a heavily modified nightmare lib, it originally functioned on second-edition rules and mechanics, modified to suit the direction of the game. It is now evolving towards a third/fourth edition hybrid, which is still in the transition process and will likely be for some time as new feats, skills and classes (including prestige classes) are added.
