The Mud Sound Protocol was created in early 1997 as a joint effort by Michael Krause of Medievia, Mike Potter of zMUD, and Aaron O'Neil of Mud Master.[1]

The protocol was updated in 2003 to negotiate MSP support using TELNET option 90.[2]
